Sudan: UN chief condemns looting of WFP facility in Sudan

United Nations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the looting of the main compound of the World Food Program (WFP) in Sudan’s capital Khartoum over the weekend.

“The Secretary-General reiterated the need for parties to protect and respect humanitarian workers and facilities, including hospitals,” Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for Mr. Guterres, said in a statement. The infrastructure should be protected.

The looting of the WFP compound is the latest violation of humanitarian facilities amid the four-week-long crisis in Sudan, Mr Haque said in the statement. Most, if not all, UN agencies and its humanitarian partners have been affected by large-scale looting, he said.
