Most of the deaths in the COVID-19 pandemic were caused by a very different infection

May 11, 2023

Virologists have concluded that the majority of deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic could have been caused by other infections.

Medical practice shows that the majority of coronavirus patients who were connected to mechanical ventilation suffered from secondary bacterial pneumonia of the lungs. As a result, the number of deaths from this was twice as high as from just COVID-19.

Despite the decrease in the number of patients, the study of the virus continues. Many doctors are inclined to believe that the matter is not at all in the coronavirus. More precisely, this virus became the reason, and the organs of the respiratory tract of patients were covered, as a result, with pneumonia. The publication writes about it “New News” with reference to Science Alert.

Similar results followed after a detailed analysis of patients’ medical records. It turned out that the coronavirus caused a cytokine storm, that is, inflammation that caused organ failure. Surviving patients suffered from pneumonia for some time.

“Our data suggest that mortality associated with the virus itself was relatively low, but other events that occurred during the stay in the intensive care unit, such as secondary bacterial pneumonia, compensated for it,” the virologists noted.
