Russian Therapist Koroleva named an unexpected reason for the cravings of older people for sweets

– Published on:

Therapist Margarita Kozlova in an interview Moscow 24 told why people over 60 suddenly start to crave sweets.

According to the expert, cravings for sweets may be associated with loneliness and a lack of positive emotions.

“Older people may experience a feeling of loneliness, dissatisfaction with living conditions,” the doctor said.

In addition, they may be disturbed by the lack of frequent contact with relatives. In a word, they are very vulnerable, especially when they are alone. Therefore, sweets brighten up their lives, because they provoke the production of the hormone of joy and help to cheer up.

The therapist explained that sweets are a good antidepressant, as they delight the brain’s receptors with the production of opioid-like components and allow a person to gain positive emotions and abstract from problems.

However, you should be careful with such products. There is a considerable risk that insulin resistance, diabetes and overweight can develop from excessive consumption of sweets.
