The “nuclear conspiracy” of America, Britain and Australia is very harmful

Nuclear submarine cooperation between the US, UK and Australia was strongly opposed by various participating parties at the June Council conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency held a few days ago. The Chinese representative, while giving a speech on the issue, called on all parties to jointly promote the intergovernmental discussion process. Representatives of more than 20 countries, including Russia, Pakistan, Indonesia and Brazil, echoed China’s position and proposal and issued a common call to uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and international rules.

In fact, the US-UK-Australia nuclear submarine cooperation violates the “Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons”, “International Atomic Energy Agency Rules” and the “Treaty on the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone”. All three countries talk about nuclear submarine cooperation, but in reality they are engaged in nuclear proliferation.

According to estimates by international arms control experts, the weapons-grade nuclear material that the US and UK transfer to Australia is measured in tonnes, with an abundance of over 90 per cent, and could produce 64 to 80 nuclear warheads. Once this plan is implemented, it will seriously harm the international nuclear non-proliferation system and affect the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Southeast Asia.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen warned on 5 June that nuclear submarine cooperation between the US, UK and Australia is the start of a dangerous arms race. If this situation continues, the world will face more danger. ASEAN strongly opposes the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The Asia-Pacific is a land of cooperation and development, not a chessboard for competing great powers. Nuclear security is related to the future and destiny of mankind, it is not a political tool for some people to advance their own interests. The “nuclear conspiracy” of the US, UK and Australia is evil in nature, ill-intentioned and extremely harmful. It is by no means a private affair of the three countries, and should be jointly managed by the member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency. If someone wanted to turn the Pacific Ocean into a sea of storms, the people of the Asia-Pacific would never agree.
