Russia plans to further develop the nuclear triad, as it is a guarantee of strategic deterrence and balance of power in the world. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this during a meeting with graduates of military universities in the Kremlin.

According to CNBC, “We plan to further develop the nuclear triad as a guarantee of strategic deterrence and to preserve the balance of power in the world,” said Putin.

Russia’s nuclear triad is a reference to its land, sea, and air-launched nuclear missiles.

On June 20, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia’s strategic nuclear forces are always in full combat readiness. The Russian leader noted that the Russian side is closely monitoring these actions and, if any threats grow, is ready to respond appropriately and adequately.

Prior to this, a representative of the American National Security Council (NSC) said that the United States is open to negotiations with the Russian Federation on issues of nuclear risks and arms control without reference to the current conflict in  Ukraine.
