The United States administration is concerned about Russia’s growing influence in Africa amid power changes in  Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. According to the Italian newspaper IL Messaggero, Moscow managed to take the place of the West, including the USA and France, in the region.

As the text suggests, the White House is concerned about the influence that Russia is spreading from the Sahel to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The newspaper recalls the entry of Russian fleet ships into the Libyan port of Tobruk in the Mediterranean Sea, which could subsequently become a Russian naval base. Also, as noted in the material, Russian ships participated in joint exercises with  Egypt and called at the port of Alexandria.

IL Messaggero also quotes the words of the EU Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Michel van der Laan, who admitted that the West is losing ground in a number of states on the African continent.
