Pawan Kalyan Creative Works officially confirmed on Wednesday that They Call Him OG will get a sequel, ending months of speculation about the future of the franchise that became one of the biggest Telugu hits of 2025. The production house said OG 2 is in active development and that shooting is expected to begin after November this year.
The confirmation came through Pawan Kalyan’s official production handle, which stated that director Sujeeth will discuss the project timeline upon returning from abroad. “Once @Sujeethsign returns from abroad, we will discuss,” the statement read, framing the sequel as a matter of scheduling rather than creative deliberation. Sujeeth, who previously directed the big-budget Saaho with Prabhas, wrote and directed the original OG and is set to return for the second instalment.
They Call Him OG released in September 2025 and grossed $35 million worldwide, making it the ninth-highest-grossing Indian film of that year. The film followed Ojas Gambheera, a retired gangster who resurfaces in 1993 Bombay after a decade in exile to confront a rising crime lord named Omi Bhau, played by Emraan Hashmi. The combination of Pawan Kalyan’s screen presence, Thaman S’s score, and a throwback gangster setting delivered a commercial result that DVV Entertainment clearly wants to replicate.
The sequel announcement carries particular weight given Pawan Kalyan’s dual role as one of Telugu cinema’s biggest stars and the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Production of the original film occurred between his political commitments, and the November shooting window suggests a similar balancing act. Kalyan leads the Jana Sena Party and holds significant governance responsibilities in the state, making his film commitments a logistical exercise that few other actors in Indian cinema navigate.
DVV Entertainment, led by D.V.V. Danayya and Kalyan Dasari, produced the first film and is expected to return for the sequel. The production house has backed some of Telugu cinema’s most expensive films, including RRR, and has the infrastructure to mount another large-scale production. No cast details beyond Pawan Kalyan have been announced for OG 2, though the original film’s ensemble included Emraan Hashmi, Priyanka Arul Mohan, and Sriya Reddy.
The announcement comes during a particularly busy period for South Indian cinema. This week alone, multiple Telugu and Tamil titles are competing for audience attention across theatres and streaming platforms, with Rana Naidu Season 2 premiering on Netflix on Friday. The density of content from the Telugu industry specifically reflects its growing confidence as a production centre that can generate franchises and sequels on a scale once associated primarily with Bollywood.
Sujeeth’s return as director is a notable creative decision. After Saaho underperformed critically despite its massive budget, his work on OG represented a career recalibration toward a leaner, more focused style of filmmaking. The original film’s success validated that shift, and the sequel gives him a chance to build on what worked rather than start from scratch with a new property.
No plot details for OG 2 have been disclosed. The first film’s 1993 Bombay setting and its portrait of underworld power dynamics leave room for either a continuation or a prequel exploring Ojas Gambheera’s decade in exile. With shooting slated for late 2026, a theatrical release is unlikely before the second half of 2027.
