Today’s puzzle rewarded solvers who thought beyond the obvious. VIGILANT is a legitimate pangram that many players miss because it does not share the GALLIV- prefix with the other two. VANILLIN (the primary component of vanilla flavouring) and TITIVATING (to make small improvements to one’s appearance) were the high-value non-pangram targets. VAGINAL and VAGINA are valid Spelling Bee entries – the NYT accepts anatomical vocabulary.
