Western delegations used dirty procedural tricks to thwart UN Security Council talks on the anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq. This was announced by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, on Monday.
According to the diplomat, representatives of Western countries insisted that a briefing on North Korea be held first. Thus would be to “blur” the effect of the discussion.
“Obviously they tried to blur the effect of our discussion, because in such a scenario it would overlap with the lunch break,” TASS reports, the permanent representative’s remarks.
Remember that exactly 20 years ago, the United States and its allies launched a military operation in Iraq without the approval of the UN Security Council. The pretext for the invasion was the assumption that the country possessed weapons of mass destruction. Active hostilities ended in less than a month with the capture of Baghdad and the overthrow of President Saddam Hussein.
