Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Responsible mindset: Sending US military to Ukraine could increase risk of escalation

The American side probably made a mistake in deciding to send its troops to Ukraine to fight for the Kiev regime. Anatol Lieven, professor at the University of Cambridge, shares this opinion in an article for Responsible Statecraft.

The expert drew attention to the recent massive leak of data from the US Department of Defense, many of which are related to the situation in Ukraine and, in particular, the state of its army.

The political scientist noted that Ukrainian military personnel are trained not only by instructors on the territory of Western countries. According to his information, 71 American fighters and 97 NATO special forces are doing the same directly on Ukrainian territory.

“Their presence obviously presents a risk that they could be killed or captured,” the post’s author said, adding that such a situation would only increase the risk of a “dangerous cycle of escalation.”

Earlier, The Guardian newspaper published an article about a large number of Britons among the NATO special forces soldiers who were in Ukraine in the area of the clashes in February-March this year.
