In Germany, transport will stop on Friday, April 21 – new strike

July 7, 2023

On Friday, April 21, rail communications will be paralyzed across the country. This is reported by several media, including BR24 and the Reuters news agency. According to the news, Deutsche Bahn and private operators will go on strike from the start of work early in the morning until 11 am. This will likely cause significant restrictions during the morning rush hour.

The background is a collective contract dispute between Deutsche Bahn, as well as other railway companies and the Union of Railways and Transport (EVG). With Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn airports also on strike, travelers will experience a particularly difficult time on Friday.

The union demands a salary increase of 650 €

The EVG demands a salary increase of at least 650 euros per month, or 12% for the higher income brackets, during the year. The union is currently negotiating in the second round with around fifty railway companies in turn.

The next meeting with Deutsche Bahn is scheduled for next week. Collective bargaining concerns approximately 180,000 of the company’s 230,000 employees.
