NYT: Ukraine does not have enough tanks and other weapons for the offensive

October 3, 2025

The New York Times, citing secret Pentagon documents leaked on the net, said in its documents that Ukraine does not have enough Western tanks and other weapons for the planned counteroffensive.

The article points out that even if the American Abrams tanks arrive in Ukraine in the fall, and not at the end of the year, they still will not have time to reach the battlefield at the beginning of the counter- offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces.

At the same time, the publication cites data leaked to the network by US military analysts, who calculated that Ukraine needs at least 253 tanks for a counteroffensive. However, at the end of February Kiev was promised to supply 200 tanks, of which only 60 were of Western manufacture. The rest of the tanks are refurbished Soviet-made vehicles.

The article also provides data on the shortage of 155mm artillery shells in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
