Islamabad High Court orders release of PTI leader Shah Mehmood

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Islamabad High Court on Thursday termed the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi as illegal under the Public Order (MPO) Act and ordered the police to release him. Geo News said in its report that Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb of the Islamabad High Court issued the directive while hearing a petition challenging the arrest of Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

While issuing the release order, the High Court also directed the PTI leader to file an affidavit similar to that of former Minister of State Ali Muhammad Khan. According to Pakistani media reports, Mr Qureshi’s lawyers informed the court that they would file the affidavit after consulting the PTI leader.
