Highlights of the Draft Jeddah Arab Summit Closing Statement

The draft declaration of the Jeddah summit, known as the “Jeddah Declaration” in Saudi Arabia regarding the Palestinian issue, stated:

Condemning practices and violations that target Palestinians in their lives and property. The draft stresses the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian question. The project calls for finding a real horizon for achieving peace in Palestine based on the two-state solution.

As for the fighting that has erupted in Sudan since mid-April, the draft statement said:

We affirm the need for calm in Sudan, the priority of dialogue and the preservation of national state institutions. We insist on the prevention of any external interference that fuels the conflict in Sudan and threatens regional security and peace. The Jeddah meetings between the Sudanese parties are an important step on which we can build.

As for the return of Syria to occupy its seat in the Arab League, the project stipulated:

We welcome the decision of the meeting of the Council of the League at the ministerial level, which included the resumption of the participation of the delegations of the Syrian government in the meetings of the Council of the League and affiliated organizations. We hope this will help support Syria’s stability, preserve its territorial integrity and resume its natural role in the Arab world. Emphasizing the importance of continuing and intensifying Arab efforts to help Syria overcome its crisis.

Regarding the Yemeni crisis, the draft declaration stated:

Support international and regional efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
