Tehran — Iran has condemned the United States for issuing threats of military action against Venezuela, calling Washington’s approach a blatant violation of international law and a reckless move that endangers global peace.

In a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, officials denounced what they described as America’s “warmongering policies,” warning that any attempt to use force against Caracas would destabilize the region. The ministry stressed that the threats were not only provocative but also in direct conflict with Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use or threat of force against the sovereignty of nations.

Iran urged the UN Security Council and Secretary-General António Guterres to intervene immediately, saying the credibility of the United Nations was at stake if such violations by the United States were left unaddressed. Tehran framed the issue as part of a broader pattern of American unilateralism that has consistently undermined international law and eroded trust in multilateral institutions.

The condemnation comes less than two weeks after Iran criticized the US State Department for offering a $50 million bounty for the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Tehran said that the move represented unlawful intervention in Venezuela’s domestic affairs and accused Washington of pursuing “militant unilateralism” designed to topple independent governments and install pliant regimes.

Iran and Venezuela, both targets of heavy US sanctions, have for years cultivated a partnership rooted in shared defiance of Washington’s influence. The alliance has expanded across the energy, financial, and defense sectors, with Tehran providing critical diplomatic backing for Caracas amid American attempts at international isolation.

According to Tasnim News, the latest Iranian statement was released on August 21, with Tehran demanding urgent international action and framing US behavior as “warmongering adventurism” that threatens not just Venezuela but the very principles of the UN Charter.
