Greece – Hotels for Refugees – Politics

April 15, 2020

In order to improve the tense situation in the completely overcrowded refugee camps on the Greek islands, some migrants are moving to hotels: About 1,000 people, for whom the coronavirus could be particularly dangerous, would be brought to vacant tourist accommodations on Lesvos and other islands, EU refugee commissioner Ylva Johansson wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. This is also possible thanks to the generosity of the local population. This shows real “European values, even in such difficult times,” wrote Johansson. According to the Commission, the relocation has already started. Humanitarian organizations have long criticized the living conditions in the camps.
