Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

A gas tanker exploded on the Iran-Afghanistan border

A fuel tanker exploded on Saturday at the Islam Qaleh crossing in the western province of Herat on the border with Iran, Iranian state television reported.

The blaze spread to dozens of nearby fuel trucks, officials said, and Waheed Qatali, governor of western Herat province, said Iranian authorities had been asked for urgent assistance in containing the blaze.

Iranian media quoted an Iranian customs spokesperson in the northeastern province of Khorasan as saying that the blast had occurred around noon at the Islam Qala customs border post in Afghanistan.

It was not immediately clear what caused the gas tanker explosion.

Ten injured people were taken to hospital and the death toll could rise, said Mohammad Shirzai, a spokesman for the Herat health department.
