Nearly 3 million people died of coronavirus worldwide

Worldwide 2,938,200 people infected with the coronavirus died by noon Monday, and since the disease broke out in late 2019, 136,136,954 have been infected, according to Johns Hopkins University Hospital.

The vast majority of patients recover, but some patients and estimates of the exact number are not known, have symptoms for weeks or months, reports France-Presse based on data collected from daily reports of the sanitary authorities of individual countries.

On Sunday alone, there were 7,993 new deaths worldwide and 601,284 confirmed newly infected cases.

The countries that confirmed the highest deaths were Brazil with 1,803 deaths, India 904 and Italy 331.

The United States still holds the ill-fated first place in terms of deaths – 562,066 deaths to 31,197,872 infected, according to Johns Hopkins.
