February 23 marks the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Zharkovsky region from Nazi invaders. Governor Igor Ruden congratulated local residents on this event.
“In 1942, every Soviet was ready to give his life for the freedom of the Fatherland. The resilience of civilians in the face of the enemy, the heroism of Red Army soldiers and partisans who forever entered the history of the land of Zharkiv, became an example of true patriotism for new generations. Today, the residents of the municipal district carry on the traditions of military and peaceful service to the motherland,” the head of the region noted in the congratulatory telegram.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation, the municipality organized rallies in the central square of the village near the slab to the heroes-doctors and the military tomb, a car rally in support of a special military operation, as well as a festive concert “Courage, Valor and Honor”.

From the summer of 1941 to February 1942, the Zharkovsky district was occupied by Nazi invaders. In August 1941, the famous raid began on the enemy rear by a separate cavalry group under the command of the Hero of the Soviet Union, General Lev Dovator. In September 1941, horsemen-dovatortsy, holding the enemy defenses, fought bloody battles for 4 days on the banks of the Mezha River in the area of the present village of Zharkovsky. In memory of this event, a commemorative plaque was erected in the central square of the village.
