In Kamchatka, soldiers sentenced to 8 years in prison for desertion


A court in the Kamchatka Territory sentenced serviceman Sergei Vladimirov to eight years in prison, who was found guilty of desertion and violence against an official. On this subject informed press service of the commission of inquiry.
According to the investigation, on October 9, 2022, Vladimirov arbitrarily left his place of duty in the Kamchatka Territory and disappeared. A criminal case has been opened against the serviceman and he has been put on the federal wanted list.
By data publications “Kam 24”, Vladimirov left the Radygino training ground, where he received military training after mobilization. He claimed that he was not subject to conscription for health reasons.
Several times they tried to detain Vladimirov at his home, and then searched his house, reports the Investigative Committee. During the arrest, Vladimirov sprayed pepper spray in the direction of Russian Guard employees and tried to hide, the department added.
In September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed amendments to the Penal Code providing for up to 10 years in prison for desertion, unauthorized abandonment of a unit during the period of mobilization, and failure to report for conscription service.
In November, a group of Federation Council senators submitted an amendment to the State Duma proposing to strip citizenship acquired for desertion, surrender and failure to comply with an order.
