Moscow’s Dorogomilovsky District Court sentenced Alexander Kizlyk, former head of the Customs Investigation Department of the Federal Customs Service, to ten years in a penal colony. On this subject informed Interfax.
He was found guilty of abuse of power causing serious consequences (part 3 of article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Kizlyk was banned from holding positions in government bodies for three years, he was deprived of the title of “Lieutenant General of the Customs Service”, the rank of “State Counselor of Justice 2nd Class” and state awards.
The attorney general’s office asked Kizlyk to be sentenced to ten years in prison. The general pleaded not guilty.
Kizlyk deputy Alexei Serebro was sentenced to seven years in prison, deputy head of Vnukovo customs Konstantin Mishin and chief investigator for particularly important cases of Domodedovo customs Andrey Shurygin were sentenced to five years in prison, the deputy head of customs of Domodedovo Yury Cherkashin – six years.
According to investigators, from 2018 to 2019, defendants helped exonerate citizens who attempted to smuggle large amounts of foreign currency across the border illegally. According to the investigation, the damage to the budget exceeded 25 million rubles.
Kizlyk was arrested in December 2019. During a search of his home, 600 thousand euros, 600 thousand dollars, a gold bar weighing more than 1 kg, watches of major brands were seized. In February 2021, the court, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, turned the property of Kizlyk and his wife in the amount of 150 million rubles into state revenue. The prosecutor’s office argued that the value of the property exceeded the official income of the spouses.
