Qatar: The Conference on Geographical Dimensions of the Culture Industry in the GCC Countries Begins

The work of the Sixth Scientific Conference of the Gulf Geographical Society, which is held under the title "Geographical dimensions of the culture industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries" It will continue until the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, with the participation of a group of researchers, academics and specialists in Qatar, the GCC countries, Egypt and Jordan.

The conference reviews, through 50 working papers, the role of Gulf cultural institutions in linking geographical sciences with the culture industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, addressing the natural and human geographical dimensions and their role in the culture industry in the Arab Gulf countries, as well as modern geographical technologies and their impact on the culture industry.

Dr. Khaled bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Cultural Village Foundation, said "Katara" In his opening speech to the conference: "Katara seeks to always be a meeting place of peoples and cultures, as it combines in its various facilities and activities, culture and geography, to open opportunities for all creative people to learn about the cultures of the world, and to provide them with an integrated cultural environment and a spacious ideal place, so that they can unleash their creative energies and go through their distinctive cultural experiences in various facilities and halls. The gardens of the Cultural District, which reflect, in their architectural style and engineering design, cultural diversity, civilizational blending, and geographical distribution, embodying Katara’s interest in various human civilizations within an integrated city that speaks a new cultural language, and provides a vital environment that documents the strong relationship between man and culture with places and times, expressing his aspiration For the conference to achieve good results in serving the cultural and tourism arena in Qatar and the region.

For his part, Dr. Khaled Hamad Aba Al-Zamat, President of the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, expressed his happiness that the conference witnessed the official participation of the heads of geographical societies in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as the Gulf geographical societies.

He added that the conference focuses on problems and solutions for the culture industry, and why culture has not reached the level of other sectors such as industry and sports. The Cooperation Council, stressing the role and importance of geography in studying community issues and problems and contributing to solving them, especially those related to culture because of its role in the advancement of societies.

Dr. Khaled Hamad Aba Al-Zamat, President of the Geographical Society of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and members of the Society honored His Excellency Prof. Dr. Khaled bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, Director General of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).

On its first day, the conference also witnessed a series of sessions presented by experts from the State of Qatar and a number of Gulf countries, which touched on important topics centered on the role of cultural institutions in the culture industry, initiated by Dr. Nadia Al-Mudhahka, Director of Research and Studies Department at Katara, who presented a working paper on the institution. General Cultural District "Katara" It dealt with the geography of culture with all that Katara symbolizes in terms of combining geography and culture to be the meeting place of peoples and cultures.

In turn, Dr. Ali Abdullah Al-Dosari, President of the Saudi Geographical Society, expressed his happiness to participate in this conference, which reflects a cultural gathering to consolidate and enhance the important cultural role in the Arab Gulf countries and its influence and impact on its Arab and international environment, indicating that there are common concerns related to the preservation of natural, tangible and non-tangible heritage. The joint material that the Gulf geographical associations should work together in order to consolidate its gains and pass them on to future generations, because it is one of the elements of national unity and Gulf cooperation.

He added that the conference discusses concepts and methods of scientific research in the field of culture and national heritage through 50 working papers of academic research through which we look forward to being a nucleus for recording cultural sites in the world heritage.

For her part, Dr. Asma Al Ketbi, President of the Emirates Geographical Society, said: "Such conferences are important in establishing new concepts and terminologies in the Arab region and promoting them as they are called "culture industry"She is known at the level of researchers and academics, as the culture industry is not just information, but rather a set of customs, traditions, arts and heritage, and as we all know that culture is not manufactured but rather developed, and she added that these conferences and the accompanying discussions, research and working papers are opportunities that inspire and motivate the participants To provide more serious work towards serving culture in its broadest sense".

For his part, Dr. Ahmad al-Khawaldeh from Yarmouk University and the head of the recently established Jordanian Environmental Geographic Society said that one of the goals of the association is to achieve partnership with geographical societies at the level of the Arab world. Stressing that he will address in his intervention the importance of cultural cooperation between Jordan and the Arab Gulf states as a model for these geographical dimensions in the culture industry, indicating that a cooperation agreement will be signed between the Jordanian Environmental Geographical Society and the Gulf Geographical Society in order to cooperate in many areas, including holding conferences, seminars, training and other activities. With a geographical dimension that aims to support joint Arab action, appreciating what the State of Qatar is doing in the service of Arab culture, and this was evident in the impressive organization of the FIFA,Football,Soccer,Football,Soccer World Cup Qatar 2022, an event that all Arabs are proud of, as Qatar was an exceptional and honorable model in the world.

For his part, Dr. Muhammad Zaki Hamed Al-Saleem, President of the Egyptian Geographical Society, said that the topic of this conference is distinguished and important, so I believe that it is important in this conference to study the change taking place and how to confront it in order to preserve our Arab heritage and culture, especially in the Arabian Peninsula, where it has its features, beauty, and advantages over others. He added: Through this conference, we confirm our desire and need to preserve our nationalism and culture, and the importance of the conference lies in the fact that it brought together geographers from the region so that each one can give his opinion on the impact of the environment on culture, indicating that the participation of the Egyptian Geographical Society will focus on scientific publication of topics, workshops and exchange between universities. And specialists in the region in addition to coordinating cooperation with the World Federation of Geographical Societies.
