Valery Karpin explained Spartak’s 8-man challenge to the Russian national team

March 21, 2023

Valery Karpin, head coach of the Russian national football team, considers it reasonable that 8 Spartak Moscow players have been called up for the March training camp.

He said so in an interview with the Football Factory video channel in response to journalist Mikhail Borzykin’s suggestion that it might be trolling.

“How many Russian players constantly play at Zenit? Malcolm and Claudinho? They can’t be recruited for the national team yet. Karavaev, Kuzyaev and somewhere Mostovoy. Sometimes Krugovoi. And how many Russians play at Spartak?” Karpin said.

Spartak players Alexander Selikhov, Daniil Khlusevich, Georgy Jikia, Daniil Denisov, Anton Zinkovsky, Danil Prutsev, Ruslan Litvinov, Alexander Sobolev were in the final squad for the March training camp. Jikia will miss training camp due to injury.
