Benil Dariush refuses to challenge Islam Makhachev

UFC lightweight number four Benil Dariush has explained why he isn’t going to challenge reigning division champion Islam Makhachev even if he manages to defeat Charles Oliveira next.

“I’m working so hard to win this fight, so why would I make it shine?” Sportskeeda quoted Dariush as saying. “I’m going to give that shine to people who help me win fights. I think it’s stupid to make all these calls like, “Please fight me!”

At the same time, the American fighter does not rule out that the organization bypasses him with the possibility of a title and allows another contender to fight for the championship belt.

“I don’t care. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m not going to beg for a title shot.”

Recall that the fight of a potential lightweight contender will take place on May 6 at UFC 288 in Newark, and its winner can challenge Islam Makhachev on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
