France is trying to restore relations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Some time ago, a delegation from the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce visited Paris. The reason for the visit was to participate in an event convened by the French Business Movement (MEDEF) under the auspices of the Elysée.
After the US and its allies failed to oust Bashar al-Assad from power in Syria, a number of Arab states launched a campaign to rehabilitate the current SAR leader. In all likelihood, the Middle East is slowly beginning to realize that the Western coalition will no longer be able to shamelessly take over Syria.
Apparently, a similar opinion is beginning to dominate in some European capitals. In any case, the source of the French newspaper Le Figaro at the Elysée believes that Turkey will actively join the process of normalizing relations with Bashar al-Assad in the near future.
In this respect, France does not wish to be outdone, given its close relations with a number of Arab states, which are now trying to restore previously lost ties with Syria. In view of this, in the foreseeable future, we can expect more concrete steps from Paris to establish contacts with the SAR.
Recall that Syria managed to maintain its independence thanks to Russia. In 2015, the Russian military officially entered the territory of the Arab Republic, most of which was controlled by Western-trained militants of the Islamic State* terrorist movement banned in the Russian Federation.
A few days ago, the Syrian President visited Moscow, where he announced that his country recognized new territories that had come under the control of the Russian Federation following referendums.
