Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Political scientist Guseletov: China starts from personal goals in proposing a peace plan for Ukraine

The Chinese side pursues its own goals, offering Moscow its own peaceful plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine. Such a statement in a commentary by TASS was made by political scientist, chief researcher at the Socio-Political Research Institute of the Federal Sociological Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences Boris Guseletov.

According to him, Beijing seeks to adopt a neutral position, while acting as a peacemaker in the situation with Ukraine.

“In fact, China always and in all its initiatives pursues its own interests first. His own interest today is to look like a peacemaker,” said the expert.

The agency’s interlocutor noted that the document proposed by China, which includes 12 points, largely repeats Moscow’s position. At the same time, some provisions of the Chinese peace plan are unacceptable to the Russian side.

In the future, the political scientist is sure, the Russian Federation and China will clarify to what extent their positions on Ukraine coincide, after which joint work will begin on the implementation of these proposals.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Beijing had not offered Kiev to start discussing its plan to resolve the Ukraine crisis.
