Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The EU said it was closely monitoring the situation in Israel

The European Union is closely monitoring what is happening in Israel in the context of the possible adoption of judicial reform by the government, but so far it does not plan to interfere in the internal politics of the country. This was reported by RT with reference to the official representative of the European Foreign Service, Peter Stano.

“We follow events in Israel closely and believe in the ability of democratic institutions to solve this problem… But we must not interfere and comment on the internal processes of democratic institutions and Israeli society,” Stano said.

Recall that the rallies against judicial reform in Israel have been going on for 11 weeks. The law proposed by the government provides for changes in the composition of the commission for the appointment of judges. Such a decision would give the government control over their appointment, while limiting the Supreme Court’s use of judicial review of the Basic Laws.

Despite large-scale protests that have halted flights from Israel’s largest Ben-Gurion airport and the work of the health system, Israel has already approved the first part of judicial reform for the latest readings.
