Father of schoolgirl who drew anti-war cartoon detained in Minsk

March 30, 2023

Aleksey Moskalev, a single father from the Tula region, was detained in Minsk. This is reported by Mediazona * with reference to lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov, who is in contact with him.
Source SOTA also said that the detention of 53-year-old Moskalev was, in all likelihood, due to the inclusion of a mobile phone in the apartment, thanks to which it was possible to calculate it.
On March 28, the Efremov Interdistrict Court of the Tula region found Moskalev guilty in a criminal case of “discrediting” the Russian military and sentenced him to two years in prison. However, the defendant was not present at the hearing. The Federal Penitentiary Service reported that the man escaped from house arrest on the morning of the same day. Former Channel One editor Marina Ovsyannikova later said that Moskalev was in Russia, but “people are looking for ways to get him somewhere safe”.
His case received a response after it turned out that in the spring of 2022, Moskalev’s daughter drew an anti-war drawing during an art lesson. Law enforcement became interested in the family, later FSB agents had a conversation with the girl, and she stopped going to school. A protocol was drawn up against Moskalev under an article about the “discrediting” of the army due to comments on social networks.
The case of the repeated “discrediting” of the military against the man was opened in December, Moskalev was placed under house arrest, and his daughter was sent to a social rehabilitation center.
On March 29, lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov published a letter from a sixth-grade student to her father. In the letter, the girl tells Moskalev that everything is fine with her and asks him not to worry. The schoolgirl also urged her father not to give up, said “victory will be ours” and promised to pray for him and herself.
