French President Emmanuel Macron will visit China next week. During his visit, he plans to warn Beijing against Russian military support in the conflict with Ukraine, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The French leader’s visit to China will last from April 5 to 7. During this trip, great attention in the negotiations will be given to the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia.
“China is the only country in the world that can have an immediate and radical impact on a conflict in one direction or the other,” notes AFP, quoting the Elysée.
Paris hopes to convince Chinese President Xi Jinping to influence Russia and push it into negotiations. However, after the Chinese leader’s recent visit to the Russian Federation, France reduced its ambitions in this area, when Beijing and Moscow announced a special cooperative relationship between the states.
During the visit, Macron will also begin to restore relations with China. During the pandemic, personal contacts have been reduced to nothing, as well as fruitful interactions, notes AFP.
Emmanuel Macron and Xi Jinping last met at last year’s G20 summit in Indonesia, and the French president’s last visit to China was five years ago, in January 2018.
Earlier, the “regional chief” wrote that the head of the Elysée had announced the intention of France and Great Britain to help Ukraine with a “counter-offensive”.
