The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, participated in the World Summit on the Information Society 2023, which was recently held in Geneva, a global event that brings together leaders from government, the private sector, civil society and international organizations to discuss promoting the use of information and communication technologies for economic and social development.
Mrs. Mashael Ali Al Hammadi, in charge of the duties of the Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, confirmed this during her participation in a high-level dialogue session on the subject "Digital Inclusion Access to information and knowledge for all – bridging digital divides"on the importance of achieving social and economic integration in all countries by activating the digital inclusion approach in a way that guarantees access to all individuals and societies, including the most disadvantaged, from using information and communication technologies to achieve their goals.
She added that, since 2014, the State of Qatar has begun to intensify efforts to achieve digital inclusion for all citizens and residents in the country, by developing and activating a digital inclusion strategy to reach all sectors of society, as the strategy identified groups of societies at risk of digital exclusion, and individuals were provided with community with a set of essential skills to enable them to use ICT, increase awareness of social media as a channel to promote small businesses, and improve their ability to access online services.
In its agenda, the WSIS Forum focused on promoting the sustainable use of information and communication technology, the possibility of digital inclusivity, access to information and the Internet in all countries of the world, the promotion of social and economic progress, and how to contribute to achieving the United Nations goals for sustainable development and improving the lives of people from all over the world. Through the optimal use of technology, in addition to addressing other topics such as digital innovation, electronic governance, digital economy, and others.
The delegation of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, headed by Mrs. Mashael Al Hammadi, participated in the ministerial round table meeting that was held on the sidelines of the forum, and was attended by experts, ministers and specialists in the communications and information technology sector, where they discussed the possibility of optimal achievement of the United Nations goals for sustainable development.
In this context, Mrs. Mashael Al Hammadi explained that the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Qatar Digital Government vision are in line with the United Nations sustainable development goals and action lines, as Qatar is working on activating a new digital strategy to achieve more flexibility, sustainability and safety and activate smart solutions for society, taking into account This strategy also includes the sustainable development goals of the United Nations and its action lines in order to ensure the achievement of unified international action in this regard. The participating delegation also attended a workshop on the future of e-government, which was held by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The attendees praised the success of the e-government workshop in the Middle East and North Africa 2023, which was held in the State of Qatar in cooperation with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
