Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

The owner of the Russian-language “Wikipedia” was fined for extremist song

A magistrate in Moscow’s Tagansky district has fined the owner of the Russian version of Wikipedia for failing to remove information as required by law. Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. must pay 800,000 rubles for violation of Part 2 of Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Violations.

According to the documents read in court, the case is related to the refusal to remove the material on the banned and recognized extremist song of the group Psyché. The Dorogomilovsky court in Moscow demanded that this article be removed from Wikipedia in 2010.

A Wikimedia representative in court asked that the case be dropped and that the company not be held liable, TASS said. According to her, the case should be considered at the location of the defendant involved – in the state of Florida.

In February, Wikimedia was fined 2 million rubles for false information about the actions of the Russian armed forces in the NVO zone. The situation with fakes on Wikipedia pages has been actively discussed in the Russian Federation for several years. In particular, the head of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, Valery Fadeev, called for the closure of this Internet resource in Russia, but “not tomorrow”, but when a replacement appropriate national will be created.
