BBC wants Twitter to cut public funding

The British company BBC has asked Twitter management to remove the “state-funded media” label that was applied to one of its accounts on this platform.

The Broadcasting Corporation is demanding the label be removed because the money comes from the UK public through a license fee, not the state. At present, more than 2 million users have subscribed to the specified account, and it is used to promote various television and radio programs, podcasts and other company content.

The BBC pointed out that its other accounts, including sports and news, were not labeled as public. The company is said to receive funding from UK households through a TV license fee, which amounts to around £3.8 billion ($4.75 billion) a year and covers around 70% of the BBC budget.
