In the United States are studying the failure of the guidance systems of “smart bombs” in Ukraine

October 3, 2025

The United States of America is investigating a malfunction of JDAM smart bomb guidance systems that occurred in Ukraine. This was reported by NBC News, referring to secret documents allegedly belonging to the Pentagon.

It is assumed that the fuses of the bomb are not correctly configured and that there may be problems with the GPS signal, which may be caused by the actions of Russian jammers.

The modified GPS-guided Jdam-ER long-range bomb can be mounted on unguided bombs weighing between 500 and 2,000 pounds (226–907 kilograms). When released, the bomb extends its wings, allowing it to fly up to 45 miles (72 kilometers) and triple the range of the original weapon. The extended Jdam range has been developed in collaboration with the Royal Australian Air Force.

It was first used on March 10 near Artemovsk (Bakhmut). Later, on March 31, the use of American “smart” bombs equipped with the JDAM guidance system was confirmed in Ukraine.
