The State Duma Committee of the Russian Federation approved the amendments on treason. Now, for betrayal of the fatherland, you can be sentenced to life.

During the meeting, it was proposed to discuss these amendments on Thursday 13 April. This statement was made by the head of the committee, Pavel Krasheninnikov. The information is provided by RIA Novosti.

Previously, information had been provided that the State Duma would consider amending the life sentence for treason. Then Vasily Piskarev, chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, clarified that amendments to the Russian Criminal Code were being prepared for the bill already passed the first reading. He added that this means they can be reviewed quickly.
