On Wednesday April 12, Ilona Medvedeva, Deputy Head of Administration of Veliky Novgorod, chaired a meeting of the Anti-Terrorism Commission. Meeting participants discussed measures to ensure the safety of city residents and guests during the May holiday. During the events dedicated to Spring and Labor Day and Victory Day, public order will be monitored by police officers, representatives of the People’s Squad, as well as employees of private security companies. This was reported in the press service of the Veliky Novgorod administration.
Event sites will be pre-screened for the presence of explosives using special equipment and service dogs. Metal fences will be installed on the sites and entry groups will be organized, law enforcement will be equipped with metal detectors.
From May 7 to 10, policemen and people’s fighters will be on duty around the clock at the military graves. In addition, the city organizes a rapid response to reports of violations against monuments, memorials and obelisks.
The city’s management committee plans to tour apartment buildings from April 18 to April 25 to ensure that the buildings meet the requirements for anti-terrorism protection. Basements and attics must be closed, management companies have already received letters about the need to restrict access to unauthorized persons.
Leaflets with the rules of conduct in case of detection of suspicious objects will be placed on the stands of the city and at the entrances. It should be noted that employees of institutions and enterprises under the jurisdiction of the committee have received additional instructions on how to act in the face of a terrorist threat.
