Kyodo: A knife found on the Prime Minister who threw a bomb on the Japanese Prime Minister

The 24-year-old Kawanishi townsman who attempted the life of the Japanese prime minister on Saturday was armed with a knife in addition to two cylindrical explosive devices. This was reported by the Kyodo agency.

Around noon on a Saturday in Wakayama City, Ryuji Kimura threw what looked like a silver pipe at Fumio Kishida, who was at the fishing port for a meeting. The head of government was not injured. The attacker was arrested. His motives are unknown. The young man refused to answer questions from the police in the absence of a lawyer.

After the incident, the Japanese prime minister was evacuated to Wakayama Prefectural Police Headquarters and his speech was cancelled. But soon after, Kishida changed his mind and instead of one performance he ended up holding three – one in Wakayama and two in Chiba.

Kishida arrived in Wakayama City to support associates of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan in the House of Representatives elections. One of Saturday’s performances was scheduled for a fishing port. After the incident, it was decided to move it to the station.
