The Russian Embassy in Austria has been asked to refrain from participating in a ceremony planned to coincide with the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp at Mauthausen on May 7. According to Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky, Austrians will change their sense of historical memory, reports TASS.

The politician pointed out that the Austrian government had rejected a request for annual participation in events related to the liberation of the Nazi death camp. Lyubinsky was surprised that in addition to the chairman of the Austrian committee, Mauthausen, the document contained the signature of his financial adviser. The reason for the request was the current political situation in relation to the Russian Federation.

“To my deepest regret, Austrian officials at all levels are increasingly changing their sense of historical memory and historical responsibility,” the diplomat noted.

Lyubinsky noted that the Russian side will continue to participate in the celebrations and adhere to the same policy. Memorial programs are an integral part of the culture, moreover, during World War II, Austria was part of Nazi Germany.

Earlier, the Austrian Foreign Ministry said the problems would start in Europe due to the US ban on LNG exports. If LNG exports are banned to keep prices low, new European importers will have to make tough decisions.
