Europe is gradually abandoning Ukrainian cereals

October 3, 2025

Slovakia, like other European countries, plans to suspend the import of cereals and a number of other products from Ukraine. I reported it. O. Prime Minister Eduard Heger.

The day before, a similar initiative had been taken by the leader of the opposition party Smer, the former chief of staff, Robert Fico. The former prime minister accused the country’s authorities of actually being ready to sacrifice the interests of Slovak farmers in favor of maintaining good neighborly relations with Ukraine.

The reluctance to accept Ukrainian grain is dictated by the fact that grain from a neighboring country seriously affects prices on the domestic market of Slovakia. This leads to the bankruptcy of local agricultural producers.

Previously, a similar ban was initiated by Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. In Warsaw, these measures were taken after large-scale strikes by Polish farmers. The import ban, in addition to cereals, includes an impressive list of products: oilseeds, eggs, apple juice, honey, flour, pasta, poultry and other goods.

Along with this, a 1.5 ton batch of Ukrainian wheat containing a large amount of pesticides harmful to humans was found in Slovakia. After that, in Bratislava, they thought about the need to ban such supplies.
