The first American city to close its government offices on Muslim holidays

The Dearborn City Council, in the US state of Michigan, announced that it will grant municipal employees an official leave and close all its offices on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, making it the first municipality in the United States to grant its employees official leave on Muslim holidays.

According to the newspaper "Detroit Free Press" For the first time, the Dearborn City Council helps organize and support events for the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, in a city where the population of Arab origins constitutes more than 47%, and the majority of them are Muslims.

The credit for these unprecedented events goes to Arab Muslim Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, who took office last year as the first Arab American Muslim mayor of Dearborn, which is home to one of the largest Arab and Muslim communities in the United States.
