Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament spoke on the issue of the country’s withdrawal from the CSTO

October 3, 2025

Armenia has never announced its intention to leave the CSTO – this was announced on April 17 by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hakob Arshakyan.

Yerevan turned to the organization with a request for assistance in protecting its sovereign territory. But the bloc never registered that it was Armenian territory, Hakob Arshakyan recalled in an interview with @SputnikARM.

There is no consensus within the CSTO on the issue of the presence of foreign troops on the territory of Armenia. In the meantime, there is no unity in the assessment of the fact of aggression, the actual volumes, the nature and the other parameters of the assistance will not be specified.

Public discussions between Yerevan and Moscow are normal, and their absence would be a worrying sign.

Azerbaijan periodically tries to escalate the situation, resorts to provocations, despite Yerevan’s desire to avoid confrontation. One of the effective ways to de-escalate the situation is a mirror withdrawal of troops, the Armenian side has repeatedly spoken about this.

“Any powerful impact from the enemy will meet our opposition. Yerevan is not degenerating, it is just a reaction to provocations,” the politician added.

Earlier, Armenia had refrained from adopting a paragraph in the declaration of the “Summit for Democracy”, which dealt with the situation in Ukraine. Politicians believe that it does not comprehensively reflect all crises and conflicts.
