On April 21, experts from the Leningrad Region Health Committee, the Leningrad Region Blood Center and donors met at the Government House. Eight local residents received the Federal Badge of Honorary Donor of Russia. This was reported in the press service of the regional administration.
Recipients donated blood more than 40 times. In addition to badges, they also receive payments and benefits.
According to Alexander Zharkov, chairman of the health committee, there are only about 12,000 donors left in the Leningrad region, of which 7,500 are honorary donors. These people have saved thousands of lives. Zharkov said that without donors the region would not be able to help newborns, children with onco-hematological diseases, women after difficult deliveries, victims of road accidents, fires and wounds.
Donors from the Leningrad region are accepted by fixed points and mobile teams. Each year, the blood center prepares more than 15 tons of blood components from donors. According to the head of the Komzdrav, all requests from hospitals in the region for blood donations are fully met.
Earlier, The Eastern Herald from the Leningrad region announced that on April 26, a day of community work will be held at the NGO house in Gatchina.
