Economist Felbermayr: Adding drugs to sanctions list would increase pressure from the West

Western countries should extend sanctions against Russia to essential goods, including medicines. Gabriel Felbermeier, director of the Austrian Institute for Economic Research, told Der Spiegel newspaper.

According to him, “there are still many sectors” that could put “a lot of pressure” on Russia. He talks about the pharmaceutical industry. According to the Austrian economist, the political pressure on the Kremlin would be different if the Russians really did not have enough basic necessities. “Not just French champagne,” Felbermeier remarked.

The economist admitted that in Russia, in the era of sanctions pressure, they learned to exist in conditions of restrictions, to respond to their introduction, and even “to form mechanisms to overcome new ones” .
