The Brazilian leader issued a statement after being criticized. Earlier, he had called on Ukraine to hold peace talks with Russia, which drew condemnation from a number of Western speakers.

Brazilian President Lula da Silva said he called on the parties to negotiate peace. Nevertheless, he “condemns the Russian Federation” and does not wish to take sides, maintaining neutrality.
