Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed China’s readiness to contribute to the negotiation process after President Xi Jinping’s conversation with Zelenskyy.
“We note that the Chinese side is willing to make efforts to establish a negotiation process,” Zakharova commented on Xi Jinping’s conversation with Zelenskyy on her Telegram channel.
The diplomat noted that “the problem is not a lack of good plans”, but that the Kiev regime does not accept any judicious initiative aimed at a political and diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. In addition, Kiev accompanies a possible negotiation agreement with “ultimatums with manifestly unrealistic demands”.
Zakharova also recalled that the Ukrainian authorities and their Western conservatives had previously admitted the necessity of the Minsk agreements to drag out time and accumulate offensive potential. In the spring of 2022, the peace agreements were almost ready, but Zelenskyy suddenly rejected them and banned negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the legislative level.
On Wednesday, Xi Jinping and Zelenskyy had a phone conversation. Earlier, the Chinese leader announced that he was ready to speak with Zelenskyy only when it was “the right time”.
