A meeting of the Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held in New Delhi on 28 April. Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu, leading the delegation, attended and delivered a speech. He said that SCO has gone through an extraordinary journey of 22 years. The Defense Ministers’ Meeting has become an important multilateral forum to strengthen strategic communication among member states and discuss security cooperation. In September last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and other heads of state attended the SCO Heads of State meeting held in Samarkand, reaching an important agreement on expanding security cooperation.
China is willing to work with all parties to strengthen strategic mutual trust, deepen counter-terrorism cooperation, and make greater contributions to safeguarding regional peace and stability. The defense ministers of SCO member states attending the meeting said they will continue to strengthen strategic communication, build consensus on cooperation, and jointly maintain regional security and stability. The “Joint Communiqué of the Meeting of Defense Ministers of SCO Member States” was issued after the meeting.
