US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns commented on the talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Reuters reports.
He stressed that this dialogue is a “good first step” for the establishment of Sino-Russian relations.
Earlier, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the Ukrainian president’s chief of staff, said China should distance itself from Russia in order to remain an economically and politically strong player.
Moreover, Deputy Head of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Andriy Melnyk said earlier that the Chinese side could become a mediator in the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
