In a statement released to the Indian Press Trust, the company described what happened as a “very rare and unfortunate incident”.
The airline said it had previously encountered cases of rats or birds on its flights, but in this rare incident there was a “homing scorpion” on its flight.
The woman was treated in hospital and was later released without issue.
An Indian Airlines spokesperson told Asian News: “Upon landing, the passenger was treated in hospital. Our officials escorted the passenger to the airport and provided her with all support.
After the plane landed in Mumbai, officials searched the entire plane and eventually located the scorpion.
The airline said the entire plane was then smoked in accordance with protocol.
