On May 10, at the ongoing Asian Weightlifting Championships in South Korea, Chinese players won gold medals in the men’s 89 kg category and women’s 81 kg category in total competition and broke three world records. The competition in the men’s 89 kg category was mainly between two Chinese players. Li Tayin and Thien Thao set three new world records in this category in snatch, clean and jerk and total reserve.
In the snatch competition, Lee Tayin broke the world record by winning the gold medal in 180 kg. In the clean and jerk competition, Thien Tho won the gold medal in 222 kg and broke the previous world record (221 kg), while Lee Tayin came second in 216 kg. Lee Tayin also broke the previous world record (395 kg) by winning the title of Total Resort in 396 kg.
In the women’s 81 kg category, Chinese player Liang Xiaomei won three gold medals in snatch, clean and jerk and total reserve. Note that the ongoing Asian Championships is an important milestone in the Paris Olympics qualification ranking for players from Asian countries and regions.
