Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Pakistan’s Supreme Court declares Imran Khan’s arrest ‘invalid’

Khan appeared in the Supreme Court after his lawyers challenged the legality of his arrest earlier this week, sparking protests across the country.

Imran Khan was brought before the court on the orders of the presiding judge, Judge Umar Atta Pandial.

Earlier, a special Pakistani court decided to jail Khan for 8 days pending an investigation after his arrest for corruption.

On Wednesday, some local media reported that prosecutors had requested Khan’s pretrial detention for 14 days.

Sher Afzal Marwat, a lawyer for Tehreek-e-Insaf, told Pakistani media that Khan was in “good spirits”, but complained of being hit in the head from behind and kicked by the paramilitaries who stopped him.

The arrest of Khan, 70, the former international cricketer, who served as prime minister from 2018 to 2022, comes amid a political crisis in Pakistan, as dozens of judicial inquiries have targeted him since its overthrow in 2022.
