Chan Jianhua’s remarks came as part of the activities of the sixth high-level meeting of the OPEC-China energy dialogue, held in the Chinese capital, Beijing, yesterday Tuesday, with the participation of Secretary General of OPEC, Haitham Al-Ghaïs.

The director of the National Energy Administration of China said that since the establishment of the dialogue mechanism between China and OPEC in 2005, policy communication has been maintained through dialogue between them, and that the two sides have achieved positive results in jointly helping to maintain the stability of the world oil market, as well as in promoting and expanding oil trade between China and OPEC member countries.

For his part, OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al-Ghais said, “OPEC attaches great importance to its dialogue partnership with China and is determined to improve and strengthen it.”

He pointed out that “the two sides have established a practical and balanced framework for cooperation and established a continuous exchange of views at all levels on energy issues of common interest”.

Along the same lines, Ambassador Li Song, Permanent Representative of the Republic of China to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, said in a video opening address that he “expresses his great appreciation for the stable cooperation and long-term communication between OPEC and China, which positively contributes to the world economy and energy security.

He added that China’s new stage of development will open up opportunities for OPEC and its member states in terms of market access, energy transition and common prosperity.

Ambassador Li Song also pledged that China’s Permanent Mission in Vienna will continue to serve as a vital bridge to facilitate cooperation between the two sides.

The seventh high-level meeting of the OPEC-China Energy Dialogue is expected to be held at an appropriate time in 2024, according to the statement.
